New Car and a Road Trip

It was a sad day for Brian on Friday when he had to say goodbye to his beloved black Impala. He loved that car but the lease was up and it was time to turn it in. Unfortunately, it's replacement, the Chevrolet Malibu wasn't available in black, so now our car is "Mocha Steel". I like it (doesn't show the dirt), but Brian REALLY liked the look of a black car. The Malibu is really comfortable inside (despite a two-tone dash board that is a little questionable) and that's a good thing because on Saturday we took a road trip to Powell River.

Here's the car at the ferry terminal.

To get to Powell River, you take a ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale at the southern tip of the Sunshine Coast. Then it's a 90 minute drive north through Gibsons and Sechelt to Earl's Cove where you catch ferry #2. Here's a shot of the scenery during the 50 minute ferry ride.

At the end of the ferry ride is Saltery Bay - you can see it is quite isolated. Then it's another 30 minutes north to Powell River.

All of the hotels (3) in Powell River were booked on Saturday night because the Powell River Kings hockey team was in town for the playoffs, so we had to drive another 30 minutes north to Lund where we stayed at the "Historic Lund Hotel". This part of the hotel is about 100 years old, but we stayed in the annex which wasn't quite so historic!

We had a bit of time to spare on Saturday, so we relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. Here is Brian looking west to the Georgia Strait. The mountains in the background are on Vancouver Island around Comox and Courtenay.
